Well, that was a wild ride. Random snippets of old songs put together in a random order. And these snippets are very short and often have no coherence whatsoever. They just don’t fit together most of the time. It goes from a silent, soothing sound to a really loud one and back. Once you have adjusted to one sound and mood, the next one (which is completely different) gets thrown at you.
The whole piece is just one big jumble, a big mess. I
really don’t know what to make of it. Some of the snippets seem familiar, some
of the songs I can even recognize (though I probably wouldn’t be able to name
the song or artist). But the sheer arbitrariness with which these sequences
have been thrown together just doesn’t make sense to me.
It is an up and down. Some parts are okay to listen
to, others are just sheer chaos and not enjoyable at all. In the whole, I don’t
see the point of this. Why would someone go through all that trouble of
gathering all these excerpts and throwing them together like this? Are there
people who enjoy listening to this? I mean, I get that some people may be
fascinated by the idea and the amount of work that John Oswald put into this,
but I don’t see why anyone would listen to this mess in their free time (no
offence though).
